Common Emergencies We Treat

You can depend on Dr. Joe and our team for fast, decisive treatment. We focus on quickly diagnosing the root cause to stop the pain and restore function.

  • Severe, Unstoppable Pain: Relief starts by identifying the source, such as an infected nerve, so we can provide definitive treatment.
  • Knocked-Out (Avulsed) Teeth: Time is crucial here. Our team acts swiftly to preserve the tooth structure and attempt immediate re-implantation.
  • Cracked or Broken Teeth: To eliminate sensitivity and protect against deep fractures, we stabilize the tooth structure immediately.
  • Dental Abscesses: Preventing the spread of infection is vital. We provide urgent care to treat the abscess and protect your overall health.
  • Lost Fillings or Crowns: Sensitivity stops when we repair or replace the failing restoration to effectively seal the tooth.
  • Accidents and Trauma: Impact injuries often involve more than just teeth. We treat soft tissue injuries to the lips or gums alongside tooth damage.

Steps To Take Before You Arrive

While you are on your way to our office, taking these specific steps can often preserve your tooth and help manage your comfort levels.

If Your Tooth Has Been Knocked Out (Avulsed)

This is a time-sensitive emergency. Call us immediately at (360) 629-3133 and follow these steps:

  1. Retrieve Carefully: Pick up the tooth by the crown (the top part), never the root.
  2. Rinse Gently: If dirty, rinse with cool water for 10 seconds. Do not scrub.
  3. Attempt Re-implantation: If possible, place the tooth back in the socket and bite gently on clean gauze to hold it.
  4. Keep it Moist: If you cannot re-insert it, place the tooth in a cup of milk or hold it between your cheek and gums.

To Manage Pain and Swelling

  1. Cold Compress: Apply a cold pack to the outside of your cheek (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off) to reduce throbbing.
  2. Medication: Use over-the-counter pain relievers as directed. Note: Do not place aspirin directly on the gums, as this causes burns.
  3. Rinse: Gently rinse with warm salt water to clean the area.

Your Comfort is Our Priority

We know fear and pain often go together. Our commitment to gentle care ensures that your comfort is addressed at every step of your visit.

  • Immediate Focus on Relief: We prioritize stopping your pain before moving on to comprehensive exams.
  • Respectful Care: Dr. Joe listens to your concerns without judgment. We are here to help, regardless of how long it has been since your last visit.
