Why Choose Dental Implants for Your Smile
Are Implants Right For You?In order to get dental implants, you will need healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. When you visit for your first consultation, Dr. Joe will help you determine whether dental implants will be a good solution for your missing teeth. If it isn’t, we’ll help guide you through your other restorative options.
What to Expect During Your ProcedureYour Initial ConsultationDr. Joe will start with a thorough examination of your oral health. This includes taking X-rays and 3D scans to help him determine if dental implants are right for you. If you have insufficient bone structure, we may recommend bone grafting to help establish healthy bone to make implants possible. The PreparationOnce the decision is made to proceed with your implants, we’ll see you again to prepare the site for your implant. After your bone has been prepared, we will carefully place the implant and suture the sutured. After seven to ten days, we will remove the sutures. The HealingAfter your implant is placed, a period of healing will begin. This typically takes three to six months, though the exact healing time will depend on how long your implant takes to become part of the bone of your jaw. This crucial process, called osseointegration, is what creates a strong and stable anchor for your new tooth. Attaching Your PostOnce your gum tissue is ready and completely healed, we will be able to move forward with placing a special post, known as an abutment. This post will serve as the support for your new natural-looking dental crown. Finalizing Your RestorationAs part of the last step, we will take an impression to create a custom-made crown which is shaded to match your existing teeth. This crown will then be slipped over the post and cemented to complete your smile. Frequently Asked QuestionsIf you take care of your implants and maintain good oral hygiene, which is also necessary for your natural teeth, your implants can last a lifetime. Caring for your implants is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush regularly, floss often, and keep up with your routine dental check-ups. Most of our patients feel minimal discomfort during and after their procedure. However, we do offer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout, and Dr. Joe will discuss pain management options for after your procedure. |
